After recent flooding caused damage in Louisiana, local retired New York City fire fighters stepped up and assisted several charities to lend aid to their brother and sister fire fighters who suffered damages as a result of this historical flooding. Retired New York City Firefighter Tony Srour, is a longtime volunteer for the Terry Fund whose mission is to assist fire fighters and their families in times of need. Tony contacted Terry Fund Coordinator Annamarie Tucker to ask what could be done to assist Louisiana firefighters during this disaster. Annamarie made contact with fire departments in the Baton Rouge area and discovered that several fire houses were heavily damaged as a result of the flood waters. Many fire fighters personal protective clothing was lost or damaged as well as their personal.
The Terry Fund was soon joined by Jennifer McNamara of the FDNY FF John McNamara Foundation, Nassau County Office of Emergency Management and the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office. Together the group collected surplus fire equipment, cleaning supplies, gloves, masks, storage bins, and clean water all to be delivered to the Baton Rouge Area. Globe Turnout Gear made a generous donation of turn out gear, and boots, which was used to replace the missing and damaged gear helping to get firefighters properly outfitted. Numerous FDNY retired members answered the call for volunteers to drive the equipment to Louisiana. FF's Tony Srour, Bob Galione, Bill Eisengrein and Lt.'s Dan Murphy, and Patrick O’Grady along with members of The Nassau Fire Marshal’s Office made the long drive to deliver the equipment and supplies. The retired firefighters said that bring the gear to Louisiana was in part to pay thanks to the fire fighters from that area who responded to New York after 9/11 occurred.
